Meet the Cody Waters Foundation

Located in Orange County, California, the Cody Waters Foundation is a local charity raising money for children dealing with cancer and other terminal illnesses. Created in memory of young Cody, the foundation is committed to improving the lives of children facing dire circumstances through an array of fundraising events right here in our community.

Cody’s Off-Road Ride to Survive is the foundation’s largest annual fundraising event. Nicknamed Cody’s Ride, this event includes an off-road poker run, lunch, and a raffle, and is held every March in California City, California. The foundation also hosts a number of additional fundraising events throughout the year at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach and Children’s Hospital Orange County. Attendees enjoy game trucks, dessert trucks, bubble shows, and face painters.

With the money they raise through their array of fundraising events, the foundation makes donations to research foundations, purchases iPads, toys, and games for children undergoing treatment, and donates play items to local children’s hospitals and camps. The Cody Waters Foundation’s work is made possible by generous support and donations from the founders’ families and friends, sponsors, local donors, and the members of Cody’s Team.

Cody Waters’ Story

Cody Waters was born and raised in Orange County and loved to play football, basketball, and baseball. Cody was a young thrill-seeker who loved to ride his Kawasaki 110 and always approached life with a positive attitude. At just eight years old, Cody was diagnosed with a rare type of brain cancer. He underwent a number of brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy with incredible strength and perseverance, never losing hope. While undergoing treatment at CHOC, Cody wanted to purchase toys and movies for other kids on his cancer floor, sparking the idea for what is now Cody’s Off-Road Ride to Survive.

On March 14th, 2009, Cody lost his battle against cancer. In Cody’s memory, the foundation has made a difference in the lives of countless children battling cancer and other terminal illnesses, providing a beacon of light and fun in the midst of their incredibly difficult journeys.

Participate in Cody’s Ride

Are you an adventure seeker looking for a way to give back to your community? Cody’s Off-Road Ride to Survive is the ultimate fundraising event to enjoy a solid dose of thrills and impactful change within our community. This exciting off-road motorcycle ride takes participants on a thrilling journey through rugged terrain, all while raising money for the Cody Waters Foundation’s incredible cause.

Cody’s Ride is open to a variety of off-road vehicles including motorcycles, quads, buggies, and trucks, and often includes a “poker ride” and a “long ride.” During the poker ride, each participant receives a poker score card and will select one playing card at each of the designated stops during the ride. Upon finishing the ride, the completed score cards will determine each participant’s final poker hand and winners are announced. In addition to their wild ride for a good cause, participants will enjoy a lunch and a raffle — all in support of local children battling terminal illnesses. Come out to the next Cody’s Ride and rev your engines!
